Personally I keep my canes rolled in some paper crystal (that of the florists) this keeps very well, I have canes which are more than 3 years old! A fragment of scotch tape so that paper stays in place, no protection at the end of the cane, this is of use for nothing and I line up all my canes in plastic hermetic boxes (you know the boxes of Spanish madeleines lol good excuse to have boxes!) everything keeps very well so.
